Mussolini commissioned many buildings and monuments for propaganda purposes, but prominent examples in Rome include the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, a symbol of Fascist grandeur for the planned 1942 World's Fair, and the Palazzo Venezia, which served as his political headquarters and from which he delivered speeches.
He also sponsored public art and murals, and used the city's existing architecture, like the Colosseum and the Vittoriano monument, as stages for Fascist-era displays of power.
