This is Ramsgates Lighthouse. The Cinque Ports were a medieval confederation of coastal towns in Kent and Sussex, originally five: Hastings, New Romney, Hythe, Dover, and Sandwich. They were granted special privileges by the Crown in return for providing ships and men for defense and trade. Alongside the main five were “limb ports” (smaller towns tied to them).
Ramsgate was formally attached as a limb of Sandwich. So while Ramsgate isn’t one of the original five, it carried Cinque Ports status through Sandwich. This image was taken as part of an ongoing street and architectural project of the places that I visit.
