This image is what is left of the iconic Victorian pier in Brighton.
The ruined pier in Brighton is the West Pier, once one of the grandest seaside structures in Britain.
It opened in 1866, designed by Eugenius Birch, and became famous for its ornate ironwork, theatre, and concert hall, drawing crowds through the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Closed in 1975 after years of decline, it fell into disrepair and was battered by storms in the 1980s.
In 2003, two major fires destroyed most of the remaining pavilion and concert hall, leaving only its skeletal iron frame.
Today, the twisted remains stand offshore as an evocative silhouette, a reminder of Brighton’s seaside heritage.
This image was taken as part of an ongoing street and architectural project of the places that I visit.
